Walking on Hampstead Heath

Hampstead Heath health walks

Monday mornings

Our volunteer walk leaders run two health walks every Monday morning (except bank holidays) meeting at 9.50 for a 10am start - no need to book, just turn up, find the walk leaders in hi vis jackets and join in.

  • Shorter walk: meet at the Parliament Hill café - this walk is gentler and suitable for those new to walking, recovering from injury or illness, or who simply fancy a shorter walk! You can expect to finish at 11.00.

  • Longer walk: meet at the entrance to the Heath opposite Hampstead Heath overground - this walk takes in the whole Heath (often going up to Kenwood), may go off the paths (so come prepared for uneven ground - comfortable footwear essential!) and includes a stop at a café. You can expect to finish at around 11.30 or 12.00.

Thursday mornings

Our Thursday walk is a medium length walk, and meets every Thursday at the Parliament Hill café at 10.50 for an 11am start. No need to book - just turn up at the café at 10.50, find out walk leader in hi vis and join in.

Nature and discovery walks

Throughout the year, Heath Hands runs a range of exploratory walks on different topics related to our open spaces. These include regular walks on subjects such as certain wildlife species or habitats, as well as a broader range of walks on history, geology and occasional outings to neighbouring places of interest.

These walks are open to all, though some may be aimed at certain groups (e.g. family walks). Most of our walks and other activities are free to attend, with a selection of paid walks and member-only walks. See upcoming walks by clicking the button below.

Our members (friends and volunteers of Heath Hands) get free access to all our walks and a regular newsletter with updates on what we have coming up. Find out more about becoming a friend here.

Nordic, mindfulness and other walks

As well as our regular health walks and discovery walks, we run some specific walks, these include regular FREE women-only Nordic walking walks in partnership with Queen’s Crescent Community Association on a Monday morning and mindfulness walks (forest bathing). Check out the upcoming schedule on our what’s on page or click below to find out more.

We are also happy to help support existing walks, for instance by sending a ranger along to give a tour or hand out maps, and to help community groups set up their own walks.
