Who should join?
If you are an angler, athlete, bird watcher, bowler, cricketer, golfer, hockey, rugby, tennis or soccer player, conservationist, cyclist, environmentalist, gardener, swimmer or walker (with or without a dog), you have your own reasons for keeping the Heath in good condition. As a Heath Hands member you can increase your enjoyment of the Heath, learn new skills and work with like-minded people, guided by seasoned Heath staff.

The minimum age for Heath Hands is 16 years, but there is no upper age limit. You can join on your own or organise a special interest, school, university, corporate, neighbourhood or even family group.

Heath Hands work on woodland and grassland management, conserving wildlife habitats, litter picking, maintaining ditches and looking after paths.  The volunteers also assist the Corporation of London in marshalling and stewarding at public events on the Heath, such at the duathlon, Heath Open Day and Jazz in the Park.  Click here to see the current list of events where helpers are needed.

And that's not all. For those who love the Heath, but who are not keen on outdoor work, we also need volunteers with public relations, computing and administrative skills to help out at our base in the West Lodge at Kenwood.

Training and equipment
All volunteers receive training as required for the task at hand, and are supplied with protective clothing including our bright green sweatshirts and t-shirts, sturdy steel-capped boots, gloves, and hand tools. Group work is under the supervision of professional Heath staff or trained, experienced volunteers. Coffee/tea breaks give a distinctly social flavour to every session.

Conditions
We ask volunteers for a commitment of at least 18 hours per year.

Click here for a membership form or send us an email  info@heath-hands.org.uk to request information by post.  Please give your postal address to receive the latest information pack.
